what's new in 2015 for b*j*p

26/5/2015

A lot has been happening this year (and late last year), and I'm only just now getting time to tell you all about it.

The new camera...

Last year, around September, I got a new camera, and I don't think I've put it down since. The Canon 700D is my new baby, and I am in love with the 50mm f1.4 lens I got to go with it. Yes, the 700D is the baby of the Canon family, but it's so small and light it feels like an extension of my hand (and I can shoot one handed which I love because I use the other one to wave at my clients like they know what the heck I'm talking about!). Its first official outing was to photograph the Ballarat Civic Hall open day in October (which I still haven't blogged :/), and it performed so much better than my old E-410. Sorry Olympus, but it's out with the old, in with the new. I've joined the Canon converts and I'm not looking back.

The studio...

Since late last year I've been working with the team at Infocus Photography and Video, shooting weddings, editing, and just generally making a nuisance of myself. I am absolutely in my element at the studio, and every day I spend there makes me want to quit my day job more. Hey, a girl can dream, right? ;)

You'll see from some of my recent work that I'm shooting portrait sessions at the studio at 102 Main Road, Bakery Hill, so if you're interested in a studio session please mention that when booking.

Weddings...?

Weddings? Did you say weddings? No, that can't be right, I swore I'd never shoot weddings! Far too stressful... Well, turns out they're not so scary, and I actually kinda love 'em :) I've tagged along on a handful since late last year, including the nuptials of James from Infocus to his beautiful bride Anne. The image below has quickly become known as my "signature shot".

And while I'm busy getting the shot, Rob from Infocus likes to torment me by taking the least flattering behind-the-scenes shots possible of my "signature move" aka "down and dirty". Case in point:

Photo credit (but no thanks) goes to Rob Clark at Infocus Photography and Video.
It amazes even me as to how I didn't fall in that creek. Counter balanced by the weight of the camera I suppose. The 5D Mk III is next on my wishlist as it's worth its weight in gold (and that's a lot of gold), but it weighs a ton!
If you are interested in booking blue*jean*photography for a wedding I'll be working in conjunction with Infocus Photography and Video (and probably showing off some more of my silly positions). Feel free to contact me for more information.

Christmas portraits

24/10/2014

With only two months to go until the big day, it is time to start thinking about your Christmas portraits.

I always like to send a family photograph to friends and family far and wide around the world along with my holiday greeting card, and I usually get quite a few back. Often we don't think to send photographs throughout the year, or we just share a few mobile phone shots on Facebook that will be glanced at for a moment then forgotten. Photographs I receive at Christmas often end up on my fridge until an updated version is received the following year, and there's nothing nicer than finding a family portrait amongst a sea of store-bought cards in your mailbox. Or, maybe you want to frame a print for Mum and Dad, Nana and Pa, brother/sister/aunty/uncle/cousin and wrap it to go under the tree. Either way, it is time to book your portrait session now.

A portrait session may only take a couple of hours out of your day, but it is the behind-the-scenes work that takes the time - booking, contracts, planning, editing, viewing and ordering, printing, presentation and delivery. And that doesn't take into account the work you do after you receive the prints - choosing a frame, mounting and wrapping, or finding the perfect card, writing, and getting it in the post. A realistic time frame for a portrait session, from the time you contact me to book your session to the time the prints are in your hands, would be one month. So you can see why you need to book now to have your prints in time for Christmas.

If you're stuck for a gift idea and don't want to be the one in front of the camera I also offer gift certificates.

Dates to remember:

Tuesday 4 November 2014 - last session for 2014 for prints to send overseas
Tuesday 18 November 2014 - last session for 2014 for prints to send around Australia
Tuesday 2 December 2014 - last session for 2014 for prints under your Christmas tree
Tuesday 9 December 2014 - last session for 2014 for digital files only
Monday 15 December 2014 - last day to order gift certificates for deliver prior to Christmas 2014 (by post or email)
Tuesday 16 December 2014 - last session for 2014  (images not ready until 2015)
Friday 19 December 2014 - last day to order gift certificates for delivery prior to Christmas 2014 (email delivery only)

I will be closed from 8:00pm on Friday 19 December 2014 and will re-open at 8:00am on Saturday 10 January 2015. (Really, 2015? How did that happen???)

Am I the right photographer for you?

This year I'm shifting focus. I've spent the last seven (has it really been seven???) years shooting whatever comes my way, and now I'm ready to concentrate on doing what I really love.
So what does that mean for you, my beloved client?
If I've already worked with you, I'll continue to work with you. I really love keeping in touch with all the beautiful families and kidlets I've met over the years, especially the littlest ones who grow and change on a daily basis, it seems.

If we haven't met yet, we totally should if you are:
- female
- teenaged or older
- actually want to be in front of my camera (and aren't just there because someone dragged you along)

Basically, I want to work with people who want to work with me. And the reality is, this means you, ladies! (I am yet to meet a man who wants to be in front of my camera.) Girls, you are welcome to bring your man, children, pets, or the whole kit-and-caboodle family along to our session. Men, you are more than welcome to join your girl at our session. But my focus is on women, girls, teens, who want to get in front of my camera, look great and feel fabulous about themselves. No drama, no fakery, and nobody who doesn't want to be there.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, maybe we should meet. If you're not sure if we're the right fit give me a call and we'll have a chat about what it is you're looking for.

CHANGES IN 2014

1/12/2013

If you've been following me for awhile, you'll notice that there have been a few changes going on around here lately, including the new website, more Facebook posts, more shoots, and a bit of a new style. I've also got some new equipment coming that I can't wait to try out on y'all.

There is one big change coming in 2014. My pricing structure is going to change to reflect my new way of doing business.

But...because I love you...I'm giving you one last ditch chance to secure ANY future shoots at 2013 prices. If you pre-purchase a session with a full digital image collection now (2013 price $80.00), that session is valid forever (well, not like forever forever, but as long as I'm around, y'know!).

Now, I know you can't pass up this offer, so I'm going to tell you where to find this amazing sale. But shhh...don't tell anyone. It's over here...

Just make sure you order the session + digital image collection for $80.00 and I'll email you a gift certificate. DON'T DELETE IT, because you can't claim your session without it!

Hurry, this is only valid until 31 December 2013. If you miss out you'll be kicking yourself, because prices go up on 1st January.
